A U.S. citizenship interview is a meeting with a USCIS officer to determine eligibility for citizenship. The interview includes questions about your application and background, and a civics and English test.



What happens during the interview?

  • The officer reviews your application and asks questions about it
  • The officer may ask questions about your "A-File"
  • The officer may ask for additional documents
  • You take the English and civics test


How do I prepare?

  • Attend the in person and/ or the online classes
  • Practice answering questions about U.S. history and government

What should I wear?

  • Dress comfortably but professionally
  • Avoid wearing jeans, shorts, and t-shirts


What should I do during the interview?

  • be friendly with the officer and don't lie.
